Les Espionnes Racontent

February 25, 2021 by Diane Greig

In 2017, Chloé Aeberhardt, a French journalist, released a book entitled, “Les Espionnes Racontent” about the stories of six female intelligence officers.

Book cover, drawing of woman's face reflected in a make-up compact with a man in the background

In this clip she talks about the women’s undercover lives from the CIA operative designing spy gadgets with Hollywood to a Russian spy in Argentina.

It took her five years to find and interview these retired women partly because she had be vetted by intelligence agency male gatekeepers to meet them. As with my research, she discovered that there is a power gradient to access the women. Recently, her book was republished as a graphic novel and became an animated series.
